Port Stephens Yacht Club Members, Handicaps corrections

As Vice Commodore I advise that errors and anomalies in the transition of the management of handicaps rolling from the Winter Series and past records to the current season has resulted in some Division 1 handicaps not being correctly or automatically updated within the Club’s Sail100 system.  These anomalies were identified through investigation by the current handicappers and have now been rectified.  Unfortunately, this has also required the review and update of results of the five Division 1 Point Score races conducted within the current season.   While the outcome has not notably affected the placing’s within the current series it has affected the allocation of points.

The responsibility for the Race Committee and the conduct of racing and results is the primary function of the Vice Commodore.  As such I accept responsibility, apologise to members effected and thank those for having identified the anomalies and corrected the handicaps and results.   Hopefully this will maintain the confidence and faith in our current system pending our transition to a new and more robust system, perhaps next year.  As always, we (the Race Committee) rely on the Sail100 system to adjust handicaps and limit manual, subjective allocation to placing of new boats within the fleet, and if required, as a review at the completion of a season.    

As with all handicap systems, boats of such varying performance and condition, in a relatively small fleet, in a broad range of conditions is a complex task and unlikely to ever give a perfect repeatable outcome.   The aim of having the system is to enable us to compete on some sort of level field, enjoy the spirit of competition and hopefully be recognised when we perform above ourselves and our peers.

As such the updated results for the Spring Season have been posted on the website and on the Club notice board.

Planning Session

In response to members input and to further understand the current and future needs of our members, the Club is conducting a survey to gauge interest and look at ideas for a planning session.  The Survey printed copies are available in the club and online HERE.  Please email it back or put your completed copy in the letter box next to the office. 
The Planning Session will be held at 6:00pm – 8:30pm on Thursday 12 December at the Club.   Unfortunately numbers are limited and we are seeking a cross section of members to contribute.   Can you advise Rick Pacey on rpacey86@hotmail.com, 0417544230 or tap him on the shoulder in the Club if you interested and able to attend.  If you can’t attend please put your ideas on the Survey form as these will be all used at the Session.
