Our Club
Port Stephens Yacht Club is a sailing club, a meeting place and a community built around time on the water.
From Wednesday afternoon sailing and Saturday racing to social events, regattas and community activities, PSYC brings together locals, visitors, skippers and crew of all levels of experience.
After racing, members gather at the Club to share the day, enjoy the harbour outlook and spend time with the people who make sailing in Port Stephens special.
Whether you are an experienced sailor, new to the sport, looking for a crew opportunity or simply enjoy the social side of the Club, there is a place for you at PSYC.
Our History
The Club began in 1971 as the Port Stephens Yacht Squadron at Soldiers Point. Its orange burgee carrying a black cannon referenced the military history of Soldiers Point and remains part of the Club's identity today.
In its early years, racing was local, competitive and strongly connected to the waters of Port Stephens. Over the decades the Club became an established part of the region's sailing calendar, hosting regular racing, interclub activity and community events.
In 2003, the Squadron became Port Stephens Yacht Club, carrying its sailing traditions forward while expanding participation, race formats and the social life of the Club.
More than fifty years after its first start, PSYC continues to connect the history of sailing at Soldiers Point with a modern and active sailing community.
Club Moorings
PSYC Moorings
PSYC maintains three moorings available to Boat Owner Members and, by prior arrangement, visiting yachts.
The Club maintains two long-term moorings between the marina and the island. One can accommodate boats up to approximately 38 ft and the other up to approximately 48 ft. Moorings are managed by the Club Captain.

- Be a PSYC Boat Owner Member for long-term member use.
- Provide current vessel registration.
- Provide evidence of $10 million Public Liability Insurance.
- Complete the PSYC Mooring Hire Agreement.

Complete this enquiry before entering into a Mooring Hire Agreement. Your enquiry will be sent to the Commodore, Club Captain and Rear Commodore for review.
Mooring Hire Agreement
Once your enquiry has been reviewed, complete the online Mooring Hire Agreement. The Agreement records the craft details, insurance requirements, licence term and the conditions applying to use of PSYC mooring facilities.

While each Director and Management Role has defined responsibilities, the successful operation of Port Stephens Yacht Club relies upon collaboration, mutual support and shared leadership. Every office bearer is expected to act in the best interests of the Club, uphold its Constitution, support the Strategic Business Plan and contribute positively to a culture of respect, participation, accountability and continuous improvement.These Duty Statements are intended to provide guidance rather than limit initiative. Responsibilities may evolve over time as the Club grows, strategic priorities change and new opportunities emerge. The Board may amend these Duty Statements from time to time to reflect the changing needs of Port Stephens Yacht Club.
