48th Anniversary Teams Regatta: Saturday 9th February, 2019
The Club’s 48th Anniversary Teams Regatta was successfully run in almost perfect conditions until storm that drenched the back markers in race two.
This feature event was also used as a fund raiser for our local Marine Rescue Port Stephens, which relies heavily on the support of volunteers and donations. They attended with their rescue boats on station during the race with Station Commander, Colin Foote giving us an insight into the important role of Marine Rescue also announcing recent Government grants that will assist with their critical work here in Port Stephens. Colin then presented the prizes, somehow managing to draw Mike Kirby’s name twice for the door prizes.
The gold coin donation from the BBQ raised $300.00 for Marine Rescue – a great effort by all, considering the inclement weather. Many thanks to our starters, organisers and to Tony Williams, Gaven Walmsley and Chris Bebb for weathering the storm to successfully keep the BBQ under control!
Twelve boats entered sailed in the Regatta, competing in four teams of three boats each, with the following results:
1st Place Team Green: 27 points
Troppo (1st & 1st), Thief of Time (5th & 8th) and Two Way Street (7th & 5th)
2nd Place Team Purple: 31 points
Exalte (3rd & 4th), Knot Working (2nd & 7th) and Hanini Bay (9th & 6th)
3rd Place Team Gold: 48 points
She’s The One (4th & 3rd), Good Life 2 (6th & 10th) and Subzero (12th & DNF 13)
4th Place Team Red: 53 points
51st Project (8th & 2nd), Eusemere (10th and 9th) and Sunburnt (11th & 13th)
The end result was the Green Team cleaning up and taking away the rum and several bottles of wine. All in all, it was an enjoyable and successful day, even with Sub Zero and 51st Project copping 5 minute time penalties for breaking their respective starts.
